February 21, 2006 [Tuesday] The Biopsy

 Biopsy today

Well I unexpectedly had minor surgery today. A biopsy of my breast. I went to see the surgeon for a consultation visit, and when he was through examining me, he asked me if I was up for having the procedure today. Not prepared for that but said, “yes let’s do it, no time to waste”. It was not painful at all, and has not caused any pain since I came home. He did two different types of biopsy’s. They did the biopsy to determine exactly what kind of cancer I have in my breasts, which will help them know what to do next. I should have the results in 2 to 3 days. He is sending the specimens to the best pathologist there is (according to him). He even called him right after the procedure to tell him that he is sending them to him and asked him to make it his top priority. These doctors I have are just amazing. Big difference then last time. I had a breast cancer scare 3 and half years ago and it took them 2 months to get me on the operating table just to do the biopsy. and it cost me $9000.00. Did not use those same doctors this time, because these new ones now believe the part of the mass the last surgeon left in, had cancer cells. The two specimens the other surgeon had checked for cancer came back benign back then. But now they think just the portion he left in happened to contain cancer cells. Anyway today this surgeon only charged me for the cost of the supplies and medical equipment needed and waved all the other fees. Did it for $150.00. Someone is definitely watching over me.

Playing phone tag with Moffit Cancer center. They seem to call me when I am at the doctors and when I call back I get this woman’s voice mail. I leave a message and when she calls me the next day I am not here. UGH! Well maybe by the time we actually reach each other I will have the results from the biopsy and can give her that news to add to my file.

So that is today’s update. Hopefully can stay home tomorrow and get some much needed rest
